English

We hope you are all having a lovely break so far! Just to make you aware, after the holidays in English the children will be writing a recount about what they have been up to in their holidays. They will need to know how to spell the days of the week for this and ensure they are writing sentences with the correct punctuation and they make sense. Please talk with you child about what they have been doing each day.

Later on in the week they will be re-writing a pirate story. They will need to focus on the beginning, middle and end.  It would be beneficial for the children if they are familiar with the language of different stories to ensure their writing is of a high quality. Any story that you read with your child ask them questions on what happened. Can they re-tell you in their own words using full sentences and not single words? Does it make sense?

By the end of Year 1 they are expected to write recounts and stories completely independently without adult support, using the appropriate language and features of both

Next week in English the children will be writing instructions on how to make a volcano. We will be making the volcano next week as well.

When writing instructions we use time adverbials to show the sequence. These are:

First

Next

Then

After that

Finally

We also number each step.

Suffix 'ed'.

Suffix 'ed'. 1

Suffix 'ing'.
