Maths Problem-Solving Day
On Friday 31st February, in Year 5, we had a morning of problem solving in maths. We used different skills to be able to solve a problem: trial and improvement, pattern spotting, working backwards, visualising, reasoning logically and working systematically. We also were looking at divisibility rules and we found patterns when dividing a three digit integer by a one digit integer.
In 5N, the children spent the morning solving maths problems in the school playground. Here are some of the children's thoughts on the day.
" I really liked the way that we had all the props. T liked the way we worked as a team. We had to know our times tables. We had to know all the things that we have learned this year."
"Today I have learnt that it is better to work as a team than to do it alone. The questions were really challenging. I would like to do tis again because it gave my brain a stretch. I would like to be in a bigger group next time. I have learnt how to be patient with my team mates. I have learnt that maths can be fun."
