We finished our food technology project by making our smoothies. We used tools such as knives, graters and blenders. We worked responsibly and safely. We used the tools appropriately and effectively to achieve our planned outcome. We enjoyed tasting the smoothies after!

We tasted a selection of fruits and vegetables. We shared our likes and dislikes. We discussed flavour, textures and smells. We have been applying language we have been learning about to describe the food we are eating - such as - "I like the fruit avocado" "This food is a fruit because it has seeds in it."
We observed a number of different fruits and vegetables. We were using what we learned about fruits and vegetables to help us correctly categorise them. We were using correct language. We really enjoyed exploring the different textures and smells.
Is it a fruit or is it a vegetable? We looked at pictures of common fruits and vegetables. We sorted them into 2 categories. We then learned that it is a fruit if it has seeds in it and a vegetable does not. We also learned where they grow - fruits grow on trees or vines and vegetables grow below or above ground. We also learned that we eat the stem, root or leaf of a vegetable. We learned that fruits flower before they become the fruits we eat. After learning about fruits and vegetables we were able to sort them correctly! Did you know a butternut squash, a red pepper, avocados and green beans were fruits!!!!???
