Hi Year 1
We hope you all have had a lovely weekend and have enjoyed the hot weather. How are you and your families? Remember to drink lots of water to keep hydrated. How are you getting on with your work? Remember there are more links at the top of this page where you can access more work. It is very important that you read for 5 minutes every day. You can use the Oxford Reading Tree Owl link to read free ebooks. It was lovely speaking to some of you when we made home phone calls last week and we shall be ringing the rest of you this week.
Also, a reminder for your parents to pick up your new workbooks from school.
This week we will be learning the story of the Gingerbread Man. This is one of my favourite stories that I like reading to my grand daughter. In maths we shall be subtracting numbers.
Take care.
We shall talk to you again tomorrow.
Mrs Hussain and Miss Tuki
English - Watch the story on the link below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b03rVld6Onw
Or you can read the story. Ask an adult for help to read some of the harder words. After reading the story, discuss what you liked or disliked about it.
Maths - Subtraction
Warm up by counting forward and backwards from any given number between 50 and 100.
What happens to a number when we subtract? What other words do you know that means the same as subtract?
Remember to subtract from the bigger number.
Today we want you to read the subtraction number sentences and copy it into your green books. Then, cross out the number of dienes that you are going to subtract from the first number.
Two subtraction sentences have been done for you.
Geography - The children at school expressed an interest in learning about how houses are different around the world.
Look at the images of the house and answer the questions below.

Good morning Year 1
We hope you enjoyed listening to the story and if you had a go at reading it yourself, then super work.
How did you find subtracting dienes? If you found it tricky do not worry too much as we shall practise this some more.
Speak to you all again tomorrow.
Mrs Hussain and Miss Tuki
English- Today we would like you to sequence the pictures below into the right order.
Look at the pictures and talk about what is happening in each picture.
Which picture comes first?
How did the story start?
What did the old lady do?
What happened when she went to take the Gingerbread Man out of the oven?
What animal did the Gingerbread Man meet first?
What happened at the end of the story?
Maths - Warm up by counting forwards and backwards from any given number between 50 and 100.
Today you are going to draw dienes for the number sentences. Look at the first number in the number sentence and draw that number using the correct number of dienes. Then subtract the second number by crossing out the correct number of dienes.
One has been done for you. Complete this work in your green books.
Geography- Today we are going to learn about a country called Italy. The children in school wanted to learn about the differences between Italy and the UK.
Look at the slides and write some facts that you have learnt about Italy in your green books. You may want to make a poster and record some facts. Can you talk about the differences between these countries with your parents? What kind of food is eaten in Italy? What language do they speak? What age do they start school? What kind of sports do Italians play?
Can you make an Italian flag?
PE
Today we want to do some yoga. Watch the link and join in.

Good morning Year 1
Today we would like to start by thanking your parents for supporting you with your learning. We understand that this may be difficult if you have more than 1 child or if you have to share your laptop or ipad. So once again thank you. It is important that we do not fall behind in our work and keep practising the skills that you have learnt in school.
Remember to spend 5 minutes every day reading and to keep practising to read and spell all of the Year 1 tricky words as you’ve had a lot of time to learn these. Please try and do some exercises too and go out and get some fresh air.
Take care and we shall speak to you tomorrow. We miss all of you who are not back in school.
Mrs Hussain and Miss Tuki
English - Use your story map to write the beginning of your story. How will you start your story? What words does a traditional tale begin with, Once upon a time, One day or are you going to start your story differently?
Rehearse your story first and remember to say the sentence before you write it down. Use your phonic knowledge to help you spell.
Maths - Warm up - count backwards from 100 to 80
What does subtraction mean? What other words do you know which mean this? What happens to a number when you subtract?
Today we are going to subtract again and you can choose any method you like. In school the children can use beadstrings. You can also subtract by putting the bigger number in your heads and then count backwards.
