Tuesday 1st March 2022 - Pancake Day

Today is Shrove Tuesday. It is the day before the start of Lent. Christians use up their rich foods like eggs, milk and sugar by making pancakes, before the fasting season of Lent. Mrs Cook will be giving up biscuits during Lent.

Mrs Cook offered us jam, lemon and sugar or plain pancakes. Use the word mat below to talk about your favourite topping.

Remembrance Day

We have been looking at poppies today and talked about the many important people who helped to keep us safe a long time ago. Poppy flowers help us to remember and say thank you to these special people.

Remembrance Day is an important date in the calendar and it is very important for children to learn a little about its meaning, even at an early age.

This type of learning is a very important part of our Personal, Social and Emotional Development and British Values, as well as helping the children to have a better knowledge and understanding of the world and important events in history.

Lara sequenced the sentence and copied the writing

Bonfire Night

Mrs Cook went to an organised firework display. There were lots of noisy, colourful fireworks. Did you see any near your house? What did they sound like? What colours did you see?

Mousa could say what sounds he heard and named the colours he saw. Mousa found the words on the working wall.

Yara spoke about fireworks video that we watched. She wrote a list of words that she could read off the working wall.

We decorated some ‘firework’ biscuits.

Diwali Thursday 4th November 2021

Festival of Light that is celebrated by people who are Hindu or Sikh. We made rangoli patterns in sand and made divas out of salt dough.

Learning such as this is very important and it helps the children to gain an awareness of other cultures and beliefs. It helps them to understand the similarities and differences between themselves and others and understand their place in the wider community.

Friday 24th September 2021

Today we focussed on one of the Take 5 steps to Wellbeing. We focussed on Keep Learning. We learnt a new action song and how to use squeezy scissors.
