Year 6

 Welcome to Year 6!

Hello and welcome to our page. Together as a year group we will be documenting our learning and adventures with you. We hope you enjoy finding out about what we have been doing at school. Meet our amazing Year 6 class below!

Tuesday 2nd July. This afternoon we had sports day, we participated in many different activities and we all had fun. Here are a few pictures.

As part of our DT project, we have designed and made buggies. We now need to attach the balloons to race them, to find out which is the best design.

On Thursday 20th June some members of year 6 represented Brookfields at a rounders competition. The children were very proud returning with their medals. Well done!

Today, Thursday 6th June 2019, we conducted a science experiment to demonstrate how food travels through our digestive system. It was messy but so much fun!

Friday 5th April 2019

This afternoon, as part of our learning about shape, we investigated and created nets and 3D structures.

Congratulations to Hasan in Y6L for the excellent progress he has made in his writing. I am very proud of you! Keep it up! You are my writer of the week! (2.04.19 Miss O'Rourke)

In English (1.04.19), we are exploring the video 'Alma' from the literacy shed. We have worked as groups to generate a range of questions about this text to complete an enquiry about in our ask-it session.

In Y6, we have been busy preparing for our SATs exams. As part of our revision we created a 'graffiti' wall in maths sharing all we know about fractions. We had lots of fun doing this; it is a fun way to revise!

In Year 6, as part of our Guided Understanding, we enjoyed learning all about the Shakespeare play 'The Tempest'. As part of our learning, we acted out Act 1 Scene 1 to support our understanding. We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed watching our class mates perform their own version. We definitely have some future actors/actresses in Y6!

'Should the internet be banned?' As part of our learning in ICT and English, we have been debating this very controversial issue. We worked with a partner to generate arguments both for and against the issue. Watch out for a future post sharing our writing on this!

Today, Tuesday 19th March, we held our year 6 inspire workshop. Our family members joined us to see how they can support us at home with our SATs and find out what we’re doing in school. Here are a few pictures of us doing some maths problem solving.

Here is the presentation from the parent workshop today (Tuesday 19th March)

Today, Friday 15th March, we went to the Big Bang Fair at the NEC. We have had an amazing day and learnt lots of different things. Here are a few pictures of the day.

On Thursday 7th March we dressed up for world book day.

We had a great time making pancakes this week! We also learnt about the origins of Shrove Tuesday and why it is an important day for Christians (05.03.19).

We are creating a class acceptable use policy. We collected ideas in relation to personal safety, technology, internet access and cyber bullying. Our next step is to create a class acceptable use policy.

We had fun sorting nouns based on own criteria. How many types of nouns do you know?

We have been busy learning about fractions on a number line!

In Science today we learnt about the different parts of the eye and how these help us to see. Here are some of our scientific diagrams.

Lily-Mai completed this newspaper article for her homework. Well done Lily-Mai.

Today (Monday 14th January 2019) in English we imagined we were news reporters reporting on a key event. We worked as part of a team and had lots of fun!

Wednesday 9th January 2019.  In Year 6 we are learning all about 'fractions' in maths. Jasmine has been working on this at home and successfully taught herself how to divide using 'KCF'. When sharing what we know about 'fractions' Jasmine taught Renda how to use this method. As you can tell from the smiles, both girls are feeling very proud of themselves. Well done girls!

Tuesday 18th December 2018

Today we had a special meal to celebrate the seasonal festivities and the end of the year.

In Year 6 this afternoon, using The Snowman as our stimulus, we wrote our own poems about the snow. Here are a few examples:

As part of our work on The Snowman, 6L made snowflakes and created their own snowman. Each snowflake has attributes of what makes a good friend on them.

In PE this half term we have been learning about the skills of athletics. We worked in groups to design and make our own relay circuit to apply these skills. We then tested out each others.

Here are some pictures from our science investigations in 6L for our Electricity topic.

Year 6 Residential Visit to Kingswood

"I learned to co-operate with my team mates and not to try and do things by myself all the time. Also the food was delicious as well!"

"I learned to face my fears and to get along with my friends."
