Brookfields Primary School

Ofsted Reports

Pupils and staff at Brookfields Primary School in Hockley have been celebrating after they received recognition for all of the positive changes that have taken place at the school in recent years.

In March, the school was visited by the schools’ inspectorate, Ofsted, for the first time since it received the education watchdog’s lowest rating in 2017. This was a full two-day inspection where every aspect of life at Brookfields Primary School was reviewed, discussed and evaluated.

We are delighted to confirm that during our recent inspection, Ofsted recognised the incredible transformation that has taken place at Brookfields Primary School over the last few years.  As a result, our school has now been rated ‘Good’ across every category.

What is more important than any rating, however, are the many wonderful comments in the report about our children, our staff and our community. We are absolutely committed to providing the best possible opportunities for our children and our families, it is what drives us.

Within their report inspectors found, for example, that “Staff and children ‘SHINE’ at Brookfields Primary School. Pupils know that adults care about them. In return, pupils work hard and are happy at this nurturing and inclusive school.”

Inspectors also reported that “Parents and carers are overwhelmingly positive about the school. They are confident to send their children to a school where they feel that ‘staff care for and support each and every child’.”

Other positive comments about our school community included:

  • “Leaders have high expectations of pupils’ achievement and behaviour. Pupils get the help they need to meet these expectations.”
  • “Pupils are polite and welcoming to new pupils and visitors. They are proud of their school and say it is ‘fun and friendly’. Pupils understand the rules of ready, respectful and safe and they behave well.”
  • “Leaders are ambitious for all pupils… Leaders have designed and a sequenced curriculum so pupils’ knowledge builds progressively over time. Staff are committed to helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning.”
  • “Teachers have secure knowledge of the subjects they teach [they are] proud to work at Brookfields.”
  • “Children settle quickly into the early years. Adults work effectively with children to develop their vocabulary and communication skills.”
  • “Staff identify pupils with SEND swiftly… Teachers know how to help these pupils to access the learning in the classroom. Pupils with SEND feel fully included.”
  • “The curriculum is appropriately adapted to support pupils who are new to speaking English…This helps them to catch up quickly and achieve well.”
  • “Many pupils take on responsibilities such as well-being ambassadors, playmakers and school councillors. These roles teach them to be responsible and ‘get them ready for the future’.”

This feedback represents a significant milestone for our school and I am incredibly proud of the changes that have taken place here. There is certainly a bright future ahead for Brookfields and so much for us to look forward to.”

Brookfields Primary School is a proud member of Create Partnership Trust, a family of schools working together with the vision of creating the best possible education for disadvantaged children in Birmingham. Since joining the Trust in 2018, the school has received the support and investment needed for its journey of transformation.
